To remove the thermal module, first remove the optical drive...

Loosen the four screws for the thermal module over the CPU in the order indicated by their stencils.

Loosen the two screws over the chipset.

Pull the thermal module carefully off of the unit. Be careful not to bend the copper piping.

Before replacing the thermal module...  

...first clean off any thermal compound residue from the CPU.   cpu thermal compound

Clean off thermal residue from the thermal module as well.

Apply new thermal compound to the CPU.
  new compound

Align the thermal module into place over the CPU.

Tighten the two screws over the chipset.   screws chipset

Tighten the four captured screws into their standoffs over the CPU in the order marked by the stencils.
