before removal

To remove the motherboard EMI shield, first remove the optical drive... (Roll mouse over image)

...and the rear cover. (Roll mouse over image)

Free the inverter board connector from the cable guides on the motherboard EMI shield.

Untape the LVDS cable and clear it from the shield area.

Peel back the tape shared with the main blower.

Detach the shared screw with the main blower.

Detach the other seven screws that secure the EMI shield to the middle frame.

Remove the shield from the unit. (Roll mouse over image)

installation

To replace the motherboard EMI shield...

...make sure to clear any cables from the edge of the shield. (Roll mouse over image)

Then carefully align it back into place over the motherboard. (Roll mouse over image)

Replace the shared screw with the main blower.

Replace the 7 screws for the shield, and the single screw shared with the system fan.

Make sure the lower corner screw is grounding the side I/O cable.

Replace the tape over the main blower.

Retape the LVDS cable to the shield with conductive tape.

Replace the inverter board connector into its cable guides on the shield.
