The side I/O module

The side I/O module is located on the left side of the unit.

before removal

To remove the side I/O, first remove the optical drive... (Roll mouse over image)

...the stand cover... (Roll mouse over image)

...and the rear cover. (Roll mouse over image)

removal

The side I/O module is connected to the motherboard with a short cable.

Detach the side I/O connector from the motherboard.

Detach the grounding screw for the connector.

Free the connector from the cable guides and the grounding tape on the middle frame. (Roll mouse over image)

Detach the two small screws for the side I/O.

Remove the side I/O from the PC. (Roll mouse over image)

installation

To replace the side I/O, align the ports of the I/O into the port holes on the side cap. (Roll mouse over image)

Secure the side I/O with its two small screws.

Replace the connector cable back into its cable guides.

Secure with grounding tape.

Replace the grounding cable and screw to the corner of the motherboard EMI shield.

Replace the connector to the motherboard.
