WLAN Antennas removal

Before you begin: First remove the USB dongle cap, the right rear cap, the left rear cap, the stand, the T rear cover, the left side cap, and the right side cap. Remove the optical drive eject button, and partially remove the rear IO bracket and the webcam. Remove the USB dongle, the rear cover, the motherboard shield, and the motherboard IO shield.

Steps

  1. Partially remove both system speakers.
  2. The antennas must both be replaced at the same time.
  3. Detach the antenna connectors from the wireless LAN card.
  4. Pull the connectors free of the cable guide on the motherboard.
  5. Pull the antenna connectors out of the cable guides at the base of the front bezel.
  6. Peel back the grounding foil covering the first antenna.
  7. Peel off the antenna grounding tape and pry the antenna from the front bezel.
  8. Repeat (grounding foil and grounding tape removal, then antenna removal) for the second antenna.

Steps

  1. To replace the wireless LAN antennas, place each antenna against the front bezel.
  2. Apply new grounding tape on top of each antenna.
  3. Replace the grounding foil on top of the grounding tape.
  4. Replace the antenna connectors into the cable guides on the front bezel.  
  5. Place the connectors into the cable guide on the motherboard.
  6. Replace the antenna connectors to the wireless LAN card.
  7. Replace the system speakers.
