Thermal Module removal

Before you begin: First remove the the USB dongle cap, the right rear cap, the left rear cap,  the stand, the T rear cover, the left side cap and the motherboard shield.

Steps

  1. Detach the heat sink fan connector from the motherboard.
  2. Loosen the four captured screws on the main heat sink in the order indicated by the stencils.
  3. Loosen the two graphics card heat sink screws in the order indicated by their stencils.
  4. Carefully pull out the thermal module.

Steps

  1. Before replacing the thermal module, clean off any thermal grease from the microprocessor and the graphics card.
  2. Clean off any thermal grease on the thermal module as well.
  3. Apply new thermal grease to the heat sink for the microprocessor as well as the graphics card heat sink.
  4. To replace the thermal module, align the radiator against the system fan duct and the screws over the screw holes on the motherboard.
  5. Secure the four screws for the microprocessor heat sink and the two screws for the graphics heat sink in the order indicated by their stencils.
  6. Replace the thermal module connector to the motherboard.
