Hard Drive Cable removal

Before you begin: First remove the USB dongle cap, the right rear cap, the left rear cap, the stand, the T rear cover, the left side cap, and the right side cap. Remove the optical drive eject button, and partially remove the rear IO bracket and webcam. Remove the USB dongle, the rear cover, the motherboard shield, the thermal module and the hinge slider.

Steps

  1. Slide the hard drive slightly to the side.
  2. Detach the two connector from the scalar board.
  3. Disengage the scalar board connectors from their cable guides on the PC and pull them away from the hard drive cable.
  4. Detach the two hard drive connectors to the motherboard and untape them from the middle frame.
  5. Free the hard drive connectors from their cable guides on the middle frame.
  6. Detach the two screws for the hard drive cable.
  7. Remove the hard drive cable from the PC.

Steps

  1. To replace the hard drive cable, press the cable onto its standoffs on the middle frame.
  2. Replace the two screws.
  3. Replace the hard drive connectors into their cable guides on the middle frame.
  4. Retape the hard drive connectors to the middle frame and reconnect them to the motherboard.
  5. Replace the scalar board connectors over the hard drive cable and tuck them into their cable guides.
  6. Reconnect the connectors to the scalar board.
  7. Slide the hard drive back into position.
