Hard drive removal

Before you begin: Remove the stand, optical drive door, rear cover, and minor bracket.

Note: This content was developed with a pre-production computer that used Phillips-head screws. Your computer will have Torx-15 screws.

  1. Remove any cables from the guide tabs on the hard drive bracket.
  2. Remove the P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard drive bracket to the chassis.
  3. Slide the drive off of the connector on the system board.
  4. Lift the drive off of the chassis.
  5. Remove the four P0 screws that secure the drive to the bracket.
  6. Pull the drive out of the bracket.

Hard drive replacement

  1. Place the hard drive into the bracket and align the screws holes.
  2. Replace the four P0 screws that secure the drive to the bracket.
  3. Position the bracket over the guide pins on the chassis.
  4. Slide the drive into the connector on the system board until it is fully seated.
  5. Replace the P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the hard drive bracket to the chassis.
  6. Replace the cables into the guide tabs on the bracket.
