
LCD touch panel assembly removal
Before you begin: Remove the stand, optical drive door, rear cover, minor bracket, and control board.
Note: This content was developed with a pre-production computer that used Phillips-head screws. Your computer will have Torx-15 screws.
- Remove the two P0 Phillips-head webcam screws and allow the webcam board to hang loose.
- Using minimal force, push the locking bar out to unlock the touch panel ZIF connector on the system board.
- Remove the touch panel ribbon cable from the ZIF connector.
- Disconnect the LV DS cable from the system board.
- Disconnect the LCD panel and backlight cables from the inverter board.
- Disconnect the right and left speaker cables from the system board.
- Disconnect the microphone cable from the system board.
- Disconnect the right and left wireless antenna cables from the WiFi board.
- Remove the retaining screw that secures the power indicator LED cable to the front bezel.
- Lift the power indicator LED out of the slot on the front bezel and let it hang loose.
- Remove the nine remaining P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the left, right, top, and bottom sides of the main bracket to the front bezel, noting their location for reinstallation.
Note: Ten screws secure the main bracket to the front bezel. The first screw is removed when removing the control board before you begin this procedure.
Important! Ensure that all loose cable are clear of the main bracket and attached components.
- Lift the main bracket with attached components off of the front bezel.
- Remove the two P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the LCD touch panel assembly to the left side of the main bracket.
- Remove the two P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the LCD touch panel assembly to the right side of the main bracket.
- Lift the main bracket with attached components off of the LCD touch panel assembly while guiding any cables necessary through the openings in the main bracket.
- Remove the main bracket with attached components.
LCD Touch panel assembly replacement
Important! Move the touch panel ribbon cable away from the LCD touch panel assembly so that it does not fall under the main bracket during replacement.
- Hold the main bracket with attached components over the LCD touch panel assembly and thread the LVDS cable through the opening in the main bracket.
- Thread the LCD panel and backlight cables through the openings in the main bracket.
- Lower the assembly and align the main bracket with the screw holes in the LCD touch panel assembly.
- Replace the two P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the LCD touch panel assembly to the left side of the main bracket.
- Replace the two P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the LCD touch panel assembly to the right side of the main bracket.
Important! Ensure that loose cables are moved aside so they do not interfere with replacing the main bracket.
- Position the main bracket with attached components over the front bezel and align the screw holes.
- Replace the nine P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the left, right, top, and bottom sides of the main bracket to the front bezel.
Note: at this point the control board and tenth screw may be replaced. See the control board removal and replacement video in this training.
- Place the power indicator LED into of the slot on the front bezel.
- Replace the retaining screw that secures the power indicator LED cable to the front bezel.
- Connect the left and right wireless antenna cables to the system board.
- Connect the microphone cable to the system board.
- Connect the left and right speaker cables to the system board.
- Connect the backlight and LCD panel cables to the inverter board.
- Connect the LVDS cable to the system board.
- Ensure that the locking bar is pushed out and then slide the touch panel ribbon cable into the ZIF connector on the system board.
- Using minimal force, push the locking bar in to lock the touch panel ZIF connector.
- Align the webcam board with the screw holes on the front bezel.
- Replace the two P0 Phillips-head screws that secure the webcam board to the front bezel.
