Optical Drive Cable removal

Before you begin: Remove the rear cover and the optical drive.

Steps

1. Detach the optical drive cable connectors from the motherboard. Note that the SATA connector has a latch that must be pressed to remove the connector.
2. Untape the power connector from the middle frame near the motherboard.
3. Free the optical drive cable connectors from the cable guide on the middle frame.
4. Untape the power connector from under the system fan.
5. Detach the two screws for the optical drive cable.
6. Remove the optical drive cable from the unit.

Optical Drive Cable replacement

Steps

1. To replace the optical drive cable, align the two screw holes on the cable over the standoffs on the middle frame.
2. Replace the two screws.
3. Pull out the the antenna connector from its cable guide in order to tape the power connector under the system fan.
4. Replace the antenna connector under the guide.
5. Replace the optical drive connectors under their cable guide on the middle frame.  
6. Retape the power connector to the middle frame near the motherboard.
7. Reconnect both optical drive cable connectors to the motherboard.
