Motherboard removal

Before you begin: Remove the rear cover and the EMI shield.

Steps

1. Remove from the motherboard: the heat sink, the WLAN card, and system memory.
2. Detach the LVDS connector from the motherboard.
3. Detach the optical drive and hard drive connectors from the motherboard.
4. Remove the five screws for the motherboard.
5. Angle the motherboard carefully out of the unit
6. Place the motherboard into an anti-static bag.

Motherboard replacement

Steps

1. To install a new motherboard, angle the motherboard into the unit. Be careful to clear connectors from the motherboard seat area. 
2. Replace the five screws in the holes labeled with an “M3” stencil.
3. Replace the hard drive and optical drive connectors to the motherboard.
4. Replace the LVDS cable to the motherboard.
5. Replace system memory, the wireless LAN card and the heat sink to the motherboard.
